Trauma Group Coaching program

About the program

Group Coaching program: Relational Trauma

Relational trauma–it seems like it’s everywhere.

Whether in our families of origin, workplaces, or intimate partnerships, it tends to be debilitating, demoralizing, and toxic. Many of us are beginning to recognize the signs, the personal cost, and the need to heal.

In this five-month group coaching program, we’ll explore the causes and impact of relational trauma and work through a powerful healing process in a respectful, supportive and caring environment.

who is it for

This program is for anyone recognizing that they have experienced relational trauma, toxic family or workplace systems, and/or intimate partner manipulation, coercive control, or abuse of any kind.

Because it is a coaching program and not therapy, it is designed for those who feel they are ready to look at and share (in a safe, confidential group) their experiences and the impact, without becoming overly triggered by the conversation. That having been said, what each person chooses to share or not will always be by their own choice.

What We’ll Cover

Our 5-month program will meet weekly and is made up of three parts.

PART ONE

We feel that a key aspect of healing is understanding the what, the why, and the impact. One reason this is critical is that all too often those who have experienced relational trauma feel they are alone and that the way they were treated was personal, rather than that they were caught in a very predictable pattern of manipulation and abuse.

We spend the first few weeks of the program exploring the neuroscience of both perpetrators and targets, and looking to see where each person’s personal experience maps onto predictable patterns.

PART TWO

With the core basis of understanding from Part One, we work through BEabove Leadership’s Seven Levels of Effectiveness and how each plays a role in our healing.

Every other week will be an overview session that features background information and a tool for that level and small group exploration time to discuss how it applies to participants’ own experience.

In between each overview session will be a group coaching session (five total) where participants will take turns being coached by the leader on a current area of concern.

PART THREE

After working through the Seven Levels, we spend the last weeks of the program exploring the idea of post-traumatic growth and looking at what is next for each person’s life.

This program meets weekly for seventeen 90-minute sessions, including frameworks, concepts, neuroscience, reflection, and group coaching.

Sessions are led by either Ann Betz or Ursula Pottinga (and occasionally both).

Group size is limited to 12, with a small group or paired breakout each session.

In addition to weekly meetings, there will be weekly reflection homework and some recordings to listen to about program concepts. There will also be an optional private Google doc where participants can share stories and reflections, and ask questions of the community.
